Java Software Engineer / CompTIA Security+ (US Secret Clearance Required) QAT Global is a US-based IT consulting firm with over 30 years of experience delivering world-class technology solutions. We are seeking a Software Engineer (Java Backend) to join our growing team in support of a high-profile client in Norfolk, VA. This role offers exposure to emerging technologies like Appian and a chance to contribute to impactful projects in a secure environment. This is a hybrid work model position with onsite collaboration in Norfolk, VA, one day per week, which may increase in the future. Location: Norfolk, VA (Hybrid – 1 day/week onsite, may increase in the future) Employment Type: Full-time Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance Key Responsibilities: Working knowledge of fundamental software algorithms and process flow working knowledge. Provide ability to perform requirement analysis for all requests for new and change assignments. Analyze user requirements and translate those requirements into functioning software modules that execute on cloud-hosted environments. Define work breakdown structure, resources, and timelines for development effort. Illustrate ability to resolve client’s technical issues. Ability to create requirement document, unit test plans for task assigned. Determine and document suggestions for code changes to incorporate the requested change. Log a Work Breakdown Structure for each requested change. Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Proven problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situation, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend solutions Team player with ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Outstanding level of professionalism in providing client support, including the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion, tact and diplomacy. Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information Ability to learn new software tools as needed to support the program. Support database migration projects ( DB2 to Oracle ). Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues. Provide recommendations for code and system improvements. Gain hands-on experience with Appian as the client transitions to this technology. Required Skills & Qualifications: Active Secret Clearance (mandatory). 3–4 years of professional Java software development experience (backend focus). Proficiency in writing and analyzing SQL code . Experience with NetBeans or Eclipse IDEs. Familiarity with DB2 databases and migration to Oracle (preferred). Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD and version control. Strong understanding of software algorithms and process flows . Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong problem-solving abilities, professionalism, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid setup.
