Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Principal Product UX Designer - Ecommerce

The Walmart Design team crafts experiences and designs the websites, tools, and mobile solutions for millions of customers and associates. As a part of the Product Design team that is at the forefront of retail, you will be responsible for building best-in-class experiences that drive continuous improvement and innovation on the world's largest company. If you are motivated by complex challenges and want to build the future of commerce and consumer services, a Design role at Walmart could be what you've been looking for.

As a Principal Product UX Designer on the Ecommerce team, you'll lead design for one or more key parts of the Walmart.com and mobile app shopping experiences and continually iterate on and evolve features and functionality our customers use most. You'll integrate business needs into design strategy and own activities and deliverables for multiple projects and engagements. You'll be an indispensable individual contributor, modeling leadership in problem-solving, design craft excellence, coaching others, communicating effectively with team and partners, and delivering very strong work on time.
You'll set the vision for the best customer experience and create a space for cross-functional colleagues to collaborate. You will use your knowledge of the Design Thinking process to collaborate with partner teams, facilitate conversations, create concepts, run design sprints, and build rapid prototypes to leverage the collective creativity. You'll employ your great strengths in storytelling to present your vision and product design rationale in a compelling, convincing manner to cross-functional partners and the leadership team. While working with partners to determine a shared plan forward that balances business and technology considerations, you will create and champion an experience that is highly usable before delivering pixel-perfect designs.

You'll sweep us off our feet if you have...

  • A strong visual and interaction design aesthetic that ties brand expressions and systems thinking together.
  • Mastery of a wide spectrum of design disciplines, with visual design being your strong suit.
  • A track record of shipping successful products in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • A strategic mindset and a system thinking approach to take the complex and make it simple.
  • Expertise to explore a variety of design ideas and iterate quickly.
  • Excellent presentation and storytelling skills. You know how to articulate a persuasive vision, share your loosely held strong opinions, and present your design and rationale in a compelling, convincing narrative.
  • Experience facilitating design sprints, workshops, or research sessions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. You embrace constraints and the unknown; you enjoy discovering and defining the problem space.
  • Ability to motivate, influence and inspire teams and partners. You find joy in leading by doing. You foster and contribute to a good team culture.
  • A growth mindset and keen sense of curiosity, always looking to improve things and find new ways to do so.
  • A genuine way to connect with people, you are good at communicating, listening, and sharing, with kindness, humility, and empathy.

You will make an impact by:

  • Crafting human-centered experiences for millions of Walmart customers and associates.
  • Leading the end-to-end design process and working closely with business partners, engineers, product managers, and researchers to ship impactful products and services.
  • Creating user-centered design strategies and solutions that deliver on user needs and business goals.
  • Actively soliciting feedback from peers and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the product design lifecycle.
  • Engaging the design research team at appropriate points during the design process to ensure insights inform the work.
  • Rapid prototyping and experimenting in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organizing, managing, and adapting to changing priorities efficiently.
  • Creating scalable experiences in partnership with our Design System team.
  • Championing the Design Thinking philosophy across the business.

Minimal qualifications:

  • Degree in HCI, graphic design, visual communication, Digital Design, Information Architecture, or related field, and at least 7 years of experience in product design.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest or experience in healthcare and e-commerce domains is a plus.
